12th World Fence-Building Championship with the best fence builders from 8 different countriesOn 1st September (11:00 o’clock) the 12th World Fence-Building Championship will take place for the first time during the Karpfhamer Fest (www.karpfhamerfest.de). The idea for this contest of the best fence builders comes from New Zealand.
There farming is mainly based on professional pasture management. Due to the relatively mild climate, cows, sheep and horses can be out on pasture all-year round. For this reason, secure and long-lasting fences have been the most important thing for decades for NZ pasture management. Because the farmer concentrates entirely on the animal husbandry, the fence building is carried out through professional fencing contractors.
In order to find the best fence builder of New Zealand, the national fence-building championship for the “Gold-en Pliers” has been carried out annually during the Fieldays in Hamilton since 1969. More than 30 fence builders register every year, and must first participate in qualifying heats to determine the top eight finalists, who in recent years were dominated by the exceptionally talented Paul van Beers. In mid-June 2012, he won this competition for the 14th time, qualifying himself again for the World Fence-Building Championship in Ger-many. Here he will encounter the best fence builders of Europe, some of whom were able to demonstrate their skills already in previous world championships.
Each fence builder must erect an approx. 70 meter long electric fence using three steel wires. In addition, a steel pasture gate must be attached and a 2 meter long strainer post perfectly placed. The execution will be evaluated by an international panel of judges. Only quality work can guarantee a good placement, but in the case of equal quality, speed of execution can be a deciding factor.
Excitement will be guaranteed, so any livestock owner interested in secure livestock containment should not miss this event.
The fence builders will be available for discussions after the contest and also on Sunday. On Friday, August 31st, 2012 a model fence will be erected and a total of 18 strainer posts will be set using a new type of tractor-mounted post driver. Interested parties can get in direct contact with the fence builders in order to benefit from their experience.
